We would like to introduce ourselves to our visitors. We are the Graves Registration Committee for the Department
of Rhode Island of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. We are the true hires to the Grand Army of the Republic
& we are charged with taking care of the men of the G.A.R., we also keep their memory alive thru living histories, school
demonstrations and other activities. One of the jobs that our committee does is to locate and record all of the Civil
War veterans in the national database (see link page) who are buried in Rhode Island, and after they are located we flag
their graves and try to take care of them as best we can. We work with towns and cities thru-out the state to ensure that
this men will NEVER be forgotten.

As you can see to the right we have replaced the flag pole
which was lost to rotten wood and the elements sometime in the late 1900's (70s or 80s). We also cleaned, raised, straightened,
re-aligned the headstones, cleaned, and repointed the monument foundation.
Our next Step in this project is to replace every headstone in Prescott
and to research each man to create as much as a bio on them as we can, the data will be put in a book. This project has a
completion date in 2010, with luck we will have a ceremony on 30 May 2010.
